Laura & Rob's Wedding Week in Devon

Laura & Rob made their wedding into a week long holiday in Devon.

They had an intimate wedding with only 20 guests.

They stayed in the beautiful Elizabethan Manor house in Devon with all 20 of their guests. There was a very natural sense of community created by living all together for a week. Raj and I were really honoured to be a part of it as they asked us to stay with them all to capture their week leading up to the wedding.

On arrival we got to the door and there was this lovely hanging heart flower arrangement on the door. Through out the week Rob’s mum would replenish it and take cuttings from the beautiful garden (the owners encouraged this!) to add to the weaved willow heart.

The gardens were very big with little courtyards around each side of the house, a large lawn for garden games, a covered walkway with Wisteria growing all over it (unfortunately it was no longer in bloom when we were there but there was plenty of other flowers in bloom), a walled garden with roses along the wall and a stream running through it. Then there was also the wild flower meadow and old orchards!

Below is how the photos turned out!

One of the little touches they had was a blackboard in the main hallway of the house with everyones names on it so you could tick if you were in for dinner or not. Dinner’s were very community based. People may have been out during the day and often everyone would come back for dinner together. We would all chip in and help out preparing dinner. Different people may take the lead in deciding what to cook for the group if they had a good meal in mind that they wanted to share with everyone. The groom, Rob, makes great pizzas from scratch! Here he is in action!

It all went down very well! It’s making me hungry just writing about it!

There was always a side table that seemed to turn into a bar as well with plenty of wine and drinks on offer.

Garden Games

Rob’s sister in-law had travelled from Sweden. She introduced us to the Swedish game Kubb and it was great fun!

As the evenings drew in the grooms mum would light the lanterns. We enjoyed sitting outside so much we’d sit there in the dark by the candle light and watch the bats fly around.

The bride and her friends made their own bouquets! What a lovely idea!

They used lots of colourful flowers which suited the summer wedding look and location perfectly.

There were lots of laughs when the bride’s best friends were spotted out the window trying to put a ribbon on the car for the wedding day but it was so windy it made it a difficult but hilarious task!

It’s little moments like this were one of us can grab a camera to capture it!

One of the families were Romanian so they cooked up a Romanian feast! What a feast it was! They cooked meat on the barbecue, a vegetable soup with sour cream, vegetable skewers and potatoes with herbs and bacon. I’m afraid I can’t remember precisely what was in everything but I can remember how delicious it was!

We captured so much from their wedding week so check out the other blog posts. Rob, the groom, had his stag do during the week in Devon and they went clay pigeon shooting, also there’s a peak inside the manor and of course the wedding day itself!
